Affinity scripts – Duplicate Image and Mitered Corner Frame

With the release of Affinity 3.3, scripting is now available, and that opens up a whole new range of possibilities. Of course, I couldn't resist experimenting with it!

If you have used my PaintShop Pro scripts before, you already know how useful a script can be for taking a repetitive or sometimes tedious process and doing much of the work for you. Affinity scripting is still very new, but I have already been busy exploring what can be done with it.

And instead of introducing this new category with just one script, I decided to start with two!

Duplicate Image – FREE Affinity Script

The first script is a simple utility that I am offering for free. Duplicate Image does exactly what its name suggests: it creates a duplicate of your current image so you can continue working on a copy while leaving the original untouched.

It is a simple script, but it is also a great way to try scripting in Affinity for the first time. You can download it, install it, and see how scripts work without having to purchase anything.

Mitered Corner Frame

For the second script, let's do something a little more creative!

Have you ever had a ribbon, lace, paper strip, fabric trim, or other straight element that you wished you could turn into a frame? Creating the four sides isn't difficult, but getting those corners to meet neatly can take a little more work.

The Mitered Corner Frame script does that work for you.

Start with your straight element, choose the dimensions you want, and the script creates the four sides with neatly mitered corners. That means the same ribbon or trim can be used to create frames of different sizes to suit your photos, scrapbook pages, cards, and other projects.

And because you start with your own element, you are not limited to one particular frame style. A ribbon can give you one look, lace another, and a textured or patterned strip something completely different.

More Affinity Scripts to Come

These are the first Affinity scripts to appear in the Creation Cassel store, but they certainly won't be the last. I have already been experimenting with other ideas and have more scripts in various stages of development.

Affinity scripting is brand new, so I am learning what is possible right along with everyone else. It will be interesting to see how the scripting capabilities develop over time, and what new tools we can create with them.

For now, you have one free script to experiment with and one that can start doing some of the work for you right away.

 

 

New script – Text Collage 1

Create your own word art with the Text Collage 1 script for PaintShop Pro. Enter 10 words or short phrases, choose three fonts and four colors, and let the script arrange them into a square collage.

Generate as many variations as you like, then customize the individual vector layers to make the result your own.

For a sampler, I created a collage with words and phrases related to memories and stories. Although I used some muted colors, you can always changed them by locking the transparency and painting some words. The collage is in PNG format so you can use whatever background color or patterns behind it.

New Brushes – Autumn punches

You can now add some autumn-related details for your projects whether on corners, on edges, or randomly placed all around. This set includes 10 different corners, with 12 different edges, and 13 individual shapes.

You can use those tips as punches with the Eraser tool or painted segments with the Brush tool.

For a sampler, I created some bookmarks that you can print or use on various projects. You can attach a string to them, write names or quotes or other messages on them. They are in png format so you can use them in a variety of programs.

New script – Multi-Frames Collage 2

Turn a single photo into a fun collage with the Multi-Frames Collage 2 script. Your image will appear through a series of overlapping circular frames that you can position to highlight the important parts of your photo. Choose the size of the circles, customize the frame and background colors, keep or modify the original background, or remove it completely. Experiment with different arrangements to create a unique result every time.

New Affinity Brushes – Gold Chains 1

Add a touch of gold to your Affinity projects with these realistic Gold Chains brushes. The collection includes 10 different chain designs, from delicate links to heavier and more decorative styles.

For a sample, I created a frame with two intertwined gold chains. The frame includes shadows to give that realistic 3D effect. The result is in PNG format so you can use it with any program.

New script – Knot #19

Three ribbon knot embellishments created with the Knot #19 PaintShop Pro scriptCreate your own ribbon knot embellishments using the ribbons already in your stash! The Knot #19 script lets you combine one, two, or three straight ribbons into a dimensional knot with flowing ends on both sides.

Mix colors and patterns to coordinate with any project. The resulting pieces remain on separate, grouped layers, giving you even more flexibility to customize your finished embellishment.

As a bonus, the ends are cut randomly to look more natural.

The end result is left on unmerged layers so you can colorize them to your liking and even insert elements, or other ribbons in the knot. The file is available in .pspimage format and .psd format so you can use it in more programs.

New script – Metal Type

Give your text and designs the look of old metal printing type with the Metal Type Script. Use any font or custom design, choose from four different metal finishes, and add optional colored residue for a worn, well-used look. Create individual characters, coordinated sets, decorative designs, or even blank metal blocks, with plenty of variation from one piece to the next.

Choose between steel, copper, brass and bronze base and select any residue color to match your project.
