New script – Card & Envelope

This week, i decided to offer something for our hybrid crafters friends. A while ago, i coded a script that would allow the user to create a custom size/shape gift card box and it was very popular for the holiday season when people often give away gift cards. That is when some users asked me to create other scripts to make hybrid projects. So here is one for you.

This script will NOT create the cards but will create the template for a card AND an envelope that you can then personalize. You choose the size and the flap design and the script will create what you need. Everything is left in separate layers so you can colorize or customize each section separately if you want, whether it is the flap for the envelope, or the front of the card only.

You can create tiny cards as small as 300 x 300 pixels (perfect for little notes, Advent calendars or other) or regular size ones up to 1800 x 1200 pixels. One neat feature of this script is that the maximum size template can still be printed on a regular home printer: no need for extra wide (and costly) printer or having to go to a print shop for it.

This script allows you to create a perfectly sized envelope if you crafted a custom card with your scrapbooking supplies or other. And of course, you can still add traditional 3d decorations to the printed card! Or you can just create blank templates and use them as base for your traditional card making.

Since this is really a TOOL script, you can use it to create CU products.

cass-Card&Envelope-sample As a sample of what this week’s script can do, i created a card for you. It has no text so you can include your own personal note and wish, in any language you want, on the computer or by hand.

It has one folding card and a matching envelope that are 1200 x 900 pixels. Not a big card, but just something you can give a friend, your mom, your colleague, etc.

I used a FREE kit called “Doux Bruisssements”. This is only one of a series of free kits that are offered on that blog. They have one every month. It is definitely worth checking out that French site!

Once you download the files, you can just add something on top of the card and print both the card and the envelope, cut them, fold them and add something inside the card for whoever you want to give the card to.

And voilà, you have a perfectly matching card and envelope.

New script – Repeat

If you want to create a long border with a specific design, how do you achieve that? Probably with a lot of copy and paste and move, and copy again, paste again and move again. This can be pretty tedious if you want to create a long strip of repeated pattern. And how do you make sure the spacing is perfectly even? That is another challenge.

This script does all the hard work for you and will take just a few seconds. In addition, you get many options in the type of repeats you can get AND you are the one deciding how the spacing should be.

You can have a simple straightforward repeat, but you can also have the design alternating up and down, or have it mirrored, or flipped, or both. You can even have the design overlap if you prefer.

You can use just about anything you want to repeat, whether it is a vector shape, a dingbat, a hand drawn design, an element, even an extracted element from your stash (just beware of any shadowing though).

And since the elements can be left unmerged (if you prefer), you can still tweak them individually, colorizing them, replacing one of two of them, and more.

cass-Repeat For this week’s free sample, I made this simple frame out of a dingbat that i colored. I used the mirrored repeat and slightly overlapped the first repeat with the original design, then, as the script offered me to merge the first two, i chose a different spacing for the following repeats.

Once a long strip of repeats was done, i selected a smaller portion of the strip to create the sides, and just with duplicates, and mirror and flip, i adjusted each side to create a frame. Very simple to do once you have the basic strip!

New Script – Multiple Dots

Do you like polkadot patterns, but want to have something more than the single dot? Here is a script that will give you the option to create layered concentric dots in random colors picked from the palette you chose.

You can create a singe dot pattern (with two colors), or a 2 x 2 design where all four dots are using the same colors, or a 2 x 2 design where all the dots are randomly colored. The end result is obviously seamless so you can use the tiles as a pattern in your Paintshop Pro. Use them straight or at a 45 degree angle for a different look.

Each tile ends up with all the dots on separate unmerged layers, so you can also replace one dot by something else, or add a shadow, or a texture to each layer independently.

Use bold or subtle colors to match your kit or your photo. Add an extra design in the middle of the smaller dots.

Ribbon Tree winner–Congratulations to Eileen

Thank you to all those who voted for their favorite ribbon tree in last week’s contest.

I am pleased to announce that the entry #5 is a winner by grabbing a whopping 46% of the popular vote.

This #5 entry was submitted by Eileen, a regular customer of the store, and also a student of the Campus.

Well, i was thrilled to see 8 submissions to this contest (i hope none of your contributions were stuck in the mail and didn’t reach me!).

I am so happy to see how creative you have been. I love to see how the same script has yielded so many different results. It is FANTASTIC don’t you think?

New Script Seamless Tiling

Do you sometimes want to create a seamless background out of a smaller element? Do you find yourself unhappy with the Seamless Tiling available in your program? That command creates a seamless effect by fading in the designs, on the edges or the corners. Yes, it is seamless, but it does not look realistic at all. This script creates a seamless tiling the same way you would do if you did it manually: by overlapping the design, instead of fading it in.

You possibly found out about this technique if you watched or attended the workshop on Seamless Designs, but although you knew how to do it, you still found it was tedious, and required precise calculations to make the end result REALLY seamless. That is why Suzy asked me to convert that technique into a script that would do the exact same steps, faster and more precisely.

Do you see those fading leaves on the left example? That is the way PSP creates the seamlessness while on the right example (done with the script), you really cannot see where the design starts or ends. Which one do you think would look better to create a background?

cass-SeamlessTiling-samples As a free sample, i chose to create three seamless tiles for you with the script. First, i used the Grass blades tube from PSP, and created a horizontal seamless tile. This would be great to add to any project with a nature or vacation theme. Second, i use a combination of spruce branches, bows and bells to make a vertical tile. You can use this tile to embellish some stationary or cards with a holiday theme (i know, it might be ahead of time, but you can start early). Then, i made a diagonally seamless tile with the fall leaves tubes from PSP too.

It is time! I promised you all the details of this promotion TODAY. Were you stalking my blog? Ok so here are the details.

The promotion will last the whole month of February (it is only 28 days so the suspense will be shorter!). You will have THREE ways to enter your name into the draw. Yes, it will be a random draw because i personally do not like judged contest, and i want everyone to have the same chance, whether you are a beginner, or an experienced scrapper/designer. No favorite. Everyone is even.

FIRST WAY to enter: simply comment on this post that you want to enter the contest. Not too hard is it? So, by simply adding your name as a comment, you have ONE entry.

SECOND WAY to enter: this will require a tiny bit more work (but it wont be hard). Just browse in my store, and tell me, in a comment, what product of mine you find the most unique, original or useful. You can name only ONE (i know, that is the hardest part!). You simply post it in a comment to this post (you can put it in the same comment as your previous entry if you want, and i will count them separately).

THIRD WAY to enter: ok, this one will make you work, and that is why you have the whole month of February. I want you to make a layout or a montage using at least ONE of my products. It CAN be a product from the store, but it can also be one of the freebies from this blog. That means, you do not have to be a PSP user to participate. See? i am thinking of everyone here: PSP users, PS users, PSE users, GIMP users, etc. I know, some of you might have more than one of my products (from the store or the samplers), but you can enter only ONCE in this manner. On February 1st, there will be a big contest on this blog. What is to win? Over $200 worth of prizes. In fact, it will be just a random draw, but you will have three chances to enter. I will not disclose everything … yet, but let’s say that the first prize includes a copy of Paintshop Photo Pro X3 and something else. This might appeal to PSP users who might want the latest version of PSP, or to non-PSP users who might want to give this program a try (more than 30 days!) to use some PSP specific products (like scripts and tubes).
