When you merge a group of layers (like a mask group), the group will automatically keep the name of the group, but if you need to remember the name of a particular layer in the group, you would have to either retype the layer name or copy and paste it, in addition to a couple of extra clicks to do the actual merge.
This script will require only ONE click to do the merging of the whole group and renaming the merged layer to keep the name of the active layer at the time of running of the script.
This script works great in conjunction with Open as Layer, and Clip to it. A bundle is available as a Quick Scrap Bundle.
