New script – Tape Frame

Tape frame script for Paintshop ProAlthough you might like to have an even frame make of straight ribbons, sometimes, you might want something a little less "clean", and if you worked with sticky tape, scotch tape, washi tape and such, you know that you MIGHT, occasionally have some unevenness to them.

This script will use with any straight "tape" and will create an uneven frame based on the dimension of the photo you want to frame.

Each length of tape will be randomly measured, and the folds will also be random. This allows you to run the same script and generate completely different frames every time. Furthermore, you end up with unmerged pieces so you can easily reuse them later.

Tape frame in layered formatTo let you "play" with this frame, i created another one using the same tape as in the initial preview. I tweaked the shadows on the ends and included those shadows in the download. Each piece of tape is left on a separate layer (with its own shadow) so you can adjust the size of the frame. It has been made for a 7x5 photo, but if you want to use it on a smaller picture, you can just move the pieces inward.

New script – Honeycombs

Honeycomb pattern script for Paintshop ProHave you ever tried to make a seamless honeycomb pattern? It is a bit challenging because you can't create a square tile that will be seamless. It has to be rectangular, and with the various color combinations, the rectangle can't always be the same size. That is a headache, and that is probably many people wanting a honeycomb pattern had to rely on pre-made templates. But that is still limiting, don't you think?

That is why I created this script. In fact, it was a real challenge in itself to code the script since everything we "think" and "see", has to be coded in mathematical formula. And the math is quite different from what is involved in a triangle or a square! In any case, i had to ask my son to help me with that math AND we had to use Google to confirm it. However, PSP had some little quirks that prevented me from using the straightforward calculations. Go figure!

But in the end, you get a script that will create a full page of honeycombs in various color patterns. You can have the individual hexagons in alternating colors (by row or by column) or you can have them randomly selected. But there is more : you can have a gradient (of any kind) drawn as a base and the honeycombs would pick the color of each individual location to make some very interesting effects.

Honeycomb hexagon paper pattern As a sample of what this script can do, I started with a palette of 3 spring colors: yellow, pink and purple, and generated four fun patterns for you. They are full size papers so you can cut them out, use them as frames, or just as a background for your next spring theme project.

New script – Custom Slats

Custom slats script for Paintshop ProUsing slats to showcase a photo makes for a fun and unique effect. However, creating slats manually is tedious, especially if you want them even or following a particular outline.

Using ready-made templates might work, but it might not suit your project, or your photo. Maybe half of the cat would be cut off, or the sun from the sunset, etc.

This script will allow you to create the outline, with the brush tool, or use a preset shape if you want. You also have several other options to customize your slats.

Slats templateAs a way for you to play around with slats (in case you never tried before), I made a large template (about 3000 pixels wide). It is in png format so you can probably use it in most graphic programs.

New font – Edge font #2

Edge fontDo you want to add a fun edge around your element? Brushes might be one option but you can't combine brush strokes. However, with a font, you can alternate characters as you want to create unique designs.

If you can add text on a path, you can add a decorative edge on that path too.

Adjust the color, the size, the kerning, the offset, just like you would do with any font.

Remember that you can use this font in any graphic program that can use outside fonts.

Not all designs are visible on the preview.

Edge font mats in png formatDo you want a closer look at these edges? I created 2 mats edged with some characters from this font. One is a rounded square and one is a circle. You can colorize those mats, or if you lock the transparency, you can "paint" on them, even with a paper!

You can obviously resize them as you need.

You will get a hammered texture on your piece based on the black and white design you will start with: the white area will be hammered while the black area will stay smooth.

What can you create? You can use any design so your element can be any shape and any size. You can create tags, coins, word plates, frames and more.

Hammered silver live event tagsAs a free sample, I created some "tags" illustrating some common life events (first day of school, first car, graduation, new baby, new house, trip/retirement) that you can use for your various projects.

Each element is 500 pixels so you can size them down to fit your need.

New script – Word Slats

Word slats script for Paintshop ProSlats are a fun way to display images as if we had multiple frames, but if you want to add a word or phrase, it makes for an even more custom display.

You can do that with this script, and you can use any text you want, in any font. The script even has additional options for even more unique ways to display your favorite photos.

Word slats ADVENTURE template in png formatAs a free sample, i converted the slats used in the preview into a template. You can use it for your own photo. Make it sideways if you prefer. Cut the slats if you have a wider image that is not as high. Be creative!

New script – Word Insert

Word insert script for Paintshop ProIf you have used the Word Cutout script, you know that it would only use the edge of the photo. However, sometimes, the edge holds some meaningful parts of the image and you would like to cut the words out of another location.

This is what this script will do. Just like the Word Cutout script, you can choose the text and the font, but this time, you can also select the location INSIDE the image.

That will give you more flexibility and several additional options. now you can pick any area of the photo that would be suitable for a cutout text, even if it is right in the middle!

Word templates in PNG formatUsing a black image, 4000x3000 pixels, i ran the script 3 times to add the individual words of "Live", "Love" and "Laugh". To make them even, i used guides before running the script, so my selections were always the same height. Neat trick!

I repeated the same process for both templates.

So you are getting 2 PNG templates that you can use with your favorite photo.

New script – Jigsaw Puzzle

Jigsaw puzzle script for Paintshop ProAlthough it might be easy to create a simple puzzle with 20 or 30 pieces, it is a whole different story when you want to have hundreds of pieces.

This script will turn any photo into a 300 pieces puzzle, complete with the bevels around each piece.

But that is not all. You also get the option to separate some pieces from the main puzzle. The script will NOT create 300 individual layers (you would get lost) but will separate those pieces YOU select with a single dot. Those pieces will be on separate  layers so you can manipulate them to your liking and pretend that you really have 300 separate pieces!

Wavy edge in painted cardboardSince this script is to be applied to your own photo, i thought i could create a little something using last week's script, the Painted Cardboard.

In fact, i used the Waving script to create the base shapes, and then, ran the Painted Cardboard script to turn them into cardboard.

You get 5 wavy edges. Use them one at the time or layer more than one to insert elements in-between if you want.

The colors are basic white and black on neutral cardboard.

New script – Painted Cardboard

Painted Cardboard script for Paintshop ProWhat do you like about incorporating ripped pieces of papers in a digital project? The rustic look? Maybe. But how do you go around getting those for your layout other than scanning them?

Easy! You use a script in Paintshop Pro!

This script will let you start with any shape, in any color and it will work its magic with just a few questions to answer or choices to make. That's it! It will create the ripped uneven edges, and convert your initial color into strips of uneven paint.

And best of all, every run will yield a different result because of the random function incorporated into the script. If you don't like one result, undo (Ctrl-Z) and run again. It's that easy!

Painted Cardboard framesAs a sample, i created 3 frames using this script. All three were made starting with a different gradient instead of a solid color. They are about 6 inches in the longest side so you should be able to get a photo in them.

With this rustic look, you can probably combine those frames with other elements in a cluster. That would be great! Don't you think?

New script – Puffy Paint

cass-puffypaintNow, you can use your Paintshop Pro to add a fun line of puffy paint around an edge of a shape or a letter.

You can replicate that uneven look of puffy paint in various colors or thickness, with this script.

Add an outline around any shape or draw your own lines and convert them to puffy paint look.

Every run of the script will give you a different look because of the random feature coded in the script.

cass-puffypaint-digitsAs a sampler of what you can get with this script, I created a set of digits in "white". You can easily fill them in with the color of your choice for a different look.

Since it is white, you can also consider them as icing digits. And why not fill them with our own Sprinkles?

Each digit is about 400 pixels high in PNG format.

A complete set will be available in the newsletter, so keep an eye on it, this coming Sunday.
